Why mobile

Built for working trucks, not for the shop.

Save the workday.
A shop visit can cost hours of driver time, fuel, and waiting. Mobile testing is performed where the truck is parked so you can reduce unnecessary travel.
Transparent rates.
Most mobile testers hide pricing behind a phone call. We show you the rate before you book — test fee, travel, total. No bait-and-switch at the door.
Free retest fee if you fail.
We give you the fault details and readiness status shown by the test device. Have a qualified mechanic repair the issue and we waive the retest service fee for 14 days. Travel still applies outside our free radius.
We transmit OBD results.
For OBD-equipped trucks, official results are transmitted directly to CARB through our approved test device. Owners are still responsible for CTC-VIS registration, CARB fees, deadlines, and any CARB follow-up.
How it works

Four steps. Mobile OBD testing.

We've designed the entire flow around one thing: getting your truck tested with less disruption. From quote to pre-check or official Clean Truck Check, you get clear pricing and written results.

  1. 01

    Tell us your truck

Enter VIN or year/make/model. We compare against public CARB scope rules and flag the likely test type or exemption to verify.

  2. 02

    Get a flat-rate quote

Test fee plus travel, calculated and shown before you book. No call-for-quote, no surprise add-ons.

  3. 03

    We come to your truck

Yard, lot, port, or jobsite, where access is safe and legal. Mobile service reduces extra driving and waiting.

  4. 04

    Pass / fail on-site

Official OBD results transmit to CARB through our approved device. You receive a written report; CARB determines Pass, Fail, Not Ready, Invalid, or Referee Referral.

The wedge

Pre-check
First.

A pre-check lets us screen the truck before the official CARB submission. We look for obvious issues while the result stays private, then only run the official test when you choose to proceed.

Pre-check reduces risk but is not a guarantee. CARB can still return Fail, Not Ready, Invalid, or Referee Referral after an official submission.
01

Pre-check

We run a private diagnostic screen for readiness, fault details, VIN/eVIN match, communication issues, and other red flags. Nothing is submitted to CARB during the pre-check.

02

Fix it

If we find issues, you get a written report with fault details, readiness status, VIN/eVIN notes, and items to review with a qualified mechanic.

03

Submit

When the truck looks ready, we return within 14 days, perform the official Clean Truck Check, and transmit the official result to CARB. CARB makes the final determination.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is CARB Clean Truck Check?

California's emissions compliance program for non-gasoline heavy-duty vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR that operate in California. Most affected OBD-equipped vehicles need periodic OBD testing; older or non-OBD vehicles may need smoke opacity/visual inspection. Testing frequency and exemptions depend on vehicle type, model year, and CARB rules. We currently perform OBD testing only.

Do I need a test?

If your vehicle is over 14,000 lbs GVWR, runs on diesel/alternative fuel/hybrid, and operates on California public roads, you likely do. Use our Vehicle Lookup — enter your VIN and we'll check scope, exemptions, and tell you which test applies.

How is mobile different from a shop?

The official OBD test is performed with a CARB-approved device by a credentialed tester, but at your yard, lot, or jobsite instead of a fixed shop. Mobile service can reduce driving and waiting time, but CARB still determines the official result.

What happens if my truck fails?

You get a written report with the fault details and readiness status shown by the test device. A qualified mechanic should diagnose and repair the truck. If you picked the Pre-check Bundle, the first visit is private and not submitted to CARB. If an official test fails, CARB receives that official result. The retest service fee is waived for 14 days on eligible OBD retests; travel still applies outside our free radius.

What does the pre-check look for?

The pre-check screens for active and permanent faults, readiness monitors that are not complete, recently cleared codes, VIN/eVIN mismatch, communication problems, missing aftertreatment data, and obvious tamper or deleted-emissions red flags. It reduces surprise failures, but it does not guarantee CARB will return a pass.

Do you handle reporting to CARB?

For OBD-equipped trucks, the official test result is transmitted directly to CARB through our approved test device. You usually do not need to manually upload that OBD result. Owners are still responsible for keeping vehicles registered in CTC-VIS, paying CARB fees, meeting deadlines, and handling any CARB follow-up.

What if CARB returns Referee Referral?

Referee Referral is a CARB-directed result, not a mobile tester decision. It can happen when CARB sees an OBD, calibration, VIN/eVIN, or emissions-configuration issue that needs referee review. The official test fee still applies because the test was performed and submitted. Repairs, referee appointments, referee fees, and any later retest are the vehicle owner's responsibility.

Can the pre-check prevent Referee Referral?

Sometimes it can catch warning signs before official submission, especially a blank report, short or mismatched eVIN, communication issue, readiness problem, active/permanent faults, or deleted-emissions indicators. It cannot guarantee no referral because CARB makes the final determination after the official submission.

Retrofit-equipped trucks?

If your truck has a retrofit device, it should match CARB's Verified Diesel Emission Control Strategy (VDECS) list and be properly labeled/maintained. We can point you to the CARB list, but we are not a retrofit installer or repair shop. A non-verified, missing, modified, or tampered emissions system can create Clean Truck Check failure and enforcement risk.

What's actually included in the price?

Test fee + travel. That's it. No hidden equipment fee, no surprise dispatch charge. Travel is free within 30 miles of Mira Mesa; beyond that, $1.25/mi round trip (covers fuel, vehicle wear, and our time on the road).

Fleet pricing?

Yes. Small fleet 2–9 trucks: lower per-truck rates when grouped in one visit. Large fleet 10+: lower per-truck rates, recurring scheduling when available, and fleet summary reports on request.
